PVHS Environmental Club
The Pascack Valley Environmental Club started in January 2007. The club strives to become involved in environmental awareness and stewardship at PV as well as the surrounding towns. Our motto is "It's not about doing everything, it's about doing SOMETHING!"
Since the beginning of this club, we have been busy. Among our list of activities are:
two successful electronic recycling drives, establishing a stronger recycling system (paper and plastic), replacing plastic with paper plates in cafeteria, designing and posting recycling signs throughout Pascack Valley, held a "We Add Up" organic cotton t-shirt fundraiser to raise sustainability awareness, participated in several Sapienza Garden clean-ups, held two letter-writing campaigns to our state representatives, invited two guest speakers to talk in our school about alternative energy and issues concerning the Hackensack River and watershed, hosted a Hurricane Katrina Relief Arcade Night fundraiser, installed solar garden lights and planted flowers at the front entrance of PV, set up a booth at GreenFest 2009 in River Vale calculating carbon footprints, applied for and received a $1,000 recycling grant from B.C.U.A., and our current on-going project is the making and distributing of cardboard paper bin recycling tops to prevent comingling and improve PV recycling efforts.
Meetings are held in the morning on the first Thursday of each month in Room 126 from 7:15 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. The advisor, Kristen Lindstrom, may be contacted at klindstrom@pascack.k12.nj.us.
